In August 2015 I worked in the small analogue film studio Filmverkstaten in Finland, where I made a short non-camera 16mm animation. Focused on the visual composition of forms, colours  and shapes on celluloid strips, I didn’t care about the final motion. That’s why the original film is very hard to watch.

Thus, it became the basis for the musical score.
Each frame in the film (lasting 1/24 of a second) is inverted horizontally, and becomes the graphic representation of one second of sound.

The score also sets a new duration for the animated images.

I kept the original layout and colour scheme of the initial frames and animated them with the computer under a new set of audiovisual rules.

The soundtrack is inspired by early recordings of electronic music, made by experimental music studios (like the Polish Radio Experimental Studio). The analogue character of the graphic score (16mm filmstrip with non-camera film) follows the compositional tradition of the 50's and 60's.

The score was interpreted and executed by PinPark (Maciek Polak and Maciek Bączyk)

Graduated from the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.
I do a lot of things: animated films with traditional techniques (my favourite), drawings, art objects, and design.

I collaborate with many cultural institutions as a graphic designer and animator.

I also work with students at the Academy of Art and Design, acting as a professor assistant in the Media Art Department.

Born in 1977 in Poland, Maciek Bączyk works with sound and image both in practice and theory. In 2010 Bączyk returned to visual arts, mainly experimental film and installations.

One of the most important features of his works is a manual contact with film, tapes, tools and the production process itself. Together with Aga Jarząb he created a small, independent audiovisual production house: kinoMANUAL.
