FAQ

· What does it mean "the background must be neutral, plain"?

The festival explores the essence of space and time. The dot [0 dimensions] and the line [1 dimension] can make wonders on the plane [2 dimensions]. If your backround contains layers or patterns, you're not working on a 2D system, but on a 3D space or more... This is why we suggest the use of a neutral background for the construction of your dot·line imagery. Try to avoid all notion of perspective and volume.

· If there's a... let's say... a face, or an object or a landscape drawn in my film with spaced dots or dotted lines... would it fit the criteria?

NO! We're seeking the abscence of figuration. If your dot·line's become someone's eye... a waterdrop, a musical note or whatever, it's ceased to be an end in itself to become a symbol of something else.

This doesn't mean we only accept animated works. Here you'll find various techniques people apply to create dot·line films.

· Can I save the postage cost and send you my film via ftp or internet?

YES. Unfortunately our server cannot handle the transfer of such volume of information, but you can send us YOUR ftp details so we can download the film directly from there. Or you can always use a public filehosting service such as Megaupload or Rapidshare. It's free ;)

· My film doesn't contain dialogs, but it features human voices...

It happens, specially if you're working with a song. The soundtrack can feature human voices as long as they don't utter words in any language. If you're using a song, this must be instrumental or feature inarticulated voices... This is a NEW RULE we have included for the second edition after various suggestions from PyR followers during the international tour.

· Ok, I understand what you mean by "ends in themselves", "neutral background" and "no words". But just in case, could I send you a link where you can watch my film online and tell me if it fits the criteria?

Well, we must be doing something wrong here... Ok, go on... pyr@mad-actions.com
