ELIGIBILITY RULES | ENTRY CALL 2009

Punto y Raya Festival explores the ultimate synthesis of the form·movement duality in different spheres of human endeavour. Due to the simplicity of its criteria, it seeks to reveal the limitations and achievements of our representation systems using abstraction's prime matter.

This entry call is addressed to audiovisual pieces built up entirely from dots and lines moving along the plane. No figuration, no perspective, just dots and lines as ends in themselves.

:: general rules

: Films must be made entirely with dots and lines avoiding figuration and perspective.

: You can use any kind of illustration, optic and animation techniques as long as your dot·lines have no volume. From the pen to the stylus, from the analogical·dot to the digital·pixel. Here you'll find examples of diverse techniques people have come up with to create dotline works.

: The background must be neutral, plain. You can use any solid color or gradients, but try to avoid textures and/or patterns.

: ATTENTION: NEW RULE! The soundtrack cannot feature any words. If you're using a song, this must be completely instrumental or feature non·narrative voices [that is, no lyrics!].

: Running time shall not exceed 9 minutes.

: It doesn't matter its original format or production date, any short·film that complies with the requirements above mentioned may be selected.

: Each author can submit as many pieces as he/she wants.

If you have any doubts, please check out our FAQ page before contacting us... it'll be much appreciated ;)

:: entry rights

The organizers and sponsors of Punto y Raya Festival desire to make the results of the competition accessible to as large an audience as possible. To achieve this we are consolidating an international exhibition platform, featuring -so far- 18 venues over 8 countries [see venues]

Any of the selected films (awarded or not) may be screened at the Punto y Raya's venues during the 2010 international tour. Therefore, by participating in this call, the author conveys the non-exclusive rights to screen his/her material within the context of Punto y Raya's international tour, free of geographic restriction.

Punto y Raya Festival's organizers wish to stress that the reruns at the venues in our platform are to reach a broader audience and have no commercial intent. The screenings may be accompanied by other activities, such as workshops, DVj sessions and conferences to continue developing the dot·line community emerged in 2007-2008 during the first edition's international tour.

:: prizes & awards

: Prizes will be awarded to the three best films. Our international jury may also give special commendations to other films selected for the competition at their own discretion. Their verdict is final.

:The awarded films will be disclosed during the festival's closing ceremony.

: The amount of the money prize will be detailed as soon as the sponsors' participation is confirmed [we hope it'll be very soon]. Just to wet your appetite (in case you may need such a thing), please take a look at the awards we gave away in our previous edition.
